Resources
This is not intended to be an all inclusive, definitive list of everything you need to homeschool, roadschool or worldschool your children. These are the books and sites that WE have used and continue to use, those that are really useful …
Books
In order of personal preference:
CGP – Coordination Group Publications
Excellent, cheap and fun, both workbooks and revision aids from Keystage 2 to GCSE (that we have used). Provide good, up-to-date coverage of the UK syllabus. Has practice papers and mock exams. If we could only buy from one publisher, CGP would be it.

Collins Revision
We’ve used the maths Collins Revision books for KS2 and KS3 – nice, easy to understand, with worksheets to test learning on each part of the curriculum introduced. Includes practice papers and mental maths tests. Used in conjunction with CGP, provide a nice range of worksheets to test what you have taught. Warning! For KS3 Maths, for example, there are two books – one for levels 3-6 and one for levels 5-8. There is a huge amount of overlap but you have to buy both in order to get your child through all of KS3. Collins can also be annoying in providing ‘just learn it’ type advice, rather than explaining WHY. But hey, that’s our job as teachers! Slightly more expensive than CGP.

Developing Numeracy
Excellent for KS3, organised by school year (ie up to Year 6). These purely provide worksheets for practising what has been taught; there is no actual theory in the books. They are pretty age appropriate and quite good fun. Include some teachers’ notes on what the exercises are aiming to do, and ‘Now Try This!’ short extension exercises. Published by A&C Black

Leckie & Leckie Success Assessment Papers
We use these for KS2 maths and english. Produced according to the Scottish curriculum, they seem much more challenging that the English equivalents for the same age. Each book contains 24 test papers covering a whole range of topics, progress charts and mark scheme. Really great for our 8 year old. The english tests include a lot of reading comprehension, which we like a lot and yet is taught so little in England and Wales. We also stocked up on some of their Standard Grade (GCSE) materials for geography and drama, which just give more ideas. Obviously a little Scotland-centric however, with most of the geographical examples from … you guessed it … Scotland.

Websites
www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize – the best site, in our opinion, to let your kids loose on to practice KS3 and GCSE subjects, revise and test.
www.youtube.com – may sound obvious, but this is an immense resource for many educational subjects. I tend to find the videos so I can censor out anything inappropriate. Have found amazing videos on everything from the endocrine system to how to do prime factorisation.
www.mathsisfun.com – nice site for revision, practice, quizzes and tests on lots of topics.
www.cgpbooks.co.uk – our favourite publisher of workbooks. We don’t buy from them as they don’t deliver free across Europe, but I would love to if they did!
www.amazon.co.uk – you can’t beat Amazon, because they deliver all over Europe, free! Great for getting all your workbooks.
