Crater lake At the Mt. Ngauruhoe crater lake we could see the helicopter flying below us like a tiny insect, finally landing right on the edge of the volcanic lake, rather them than me!

And before you could say ‘fly me ‘round the volcano one more time, James’ we we back over the open grassland of the national park and coming into land.

Back in the camper van, I dismayed the kids by saying that we would not be visiting the climbing wall as I’d hinted we might and that as time was pressing on and Mummy would be back soon we would grab some lunch and head back to the campsite.

So after chartering a light aircraft and flying over one of New Zealands most beautiful and active volcanoes, the backdrop to one of the best movies ever made, in possibly the final weeks before impending disaster, Rowan managed to sum up the moment perfectly

‘Oh god, not another boring day!’

I kid you not.
